jonkenpon is The Story of a Tokyo Web Startup I just stubled across from one of the directors blogs. Live blogging has proved beneficial for companies like Carson Systems who used it as a viral marketing technique on Bare Naked App to attract attention to their latest web offering Amigo and the sale of their previous web app Dropsend.

From their history it looks like the lads at jonkenpon might be cooking up something equally as interesting right now in the Tokyo webspace, so definitely worth keeping an eye on. Good luck guys!

Christmas cheer and beer

Well Christmas is almost upon us and the new year shortly after. What a year it’s been! We wish you all the best for 2007 and look forward to another exciting year.

It’s interesting being in the southern hemisphere this year, summer Christmas is really different. Hot days, the sun setting at 8pm. Very different to the white Christmas we’d become acustomed to up in Japan. So if you’re enjoying a cold Christmas, raise a glass of eggnog and tomorrow we’ll be hefting cold pints of ale.

We love our rituals, the morning coffee is my favourite while checking the news feeds, inbox, and traffic analytics. Mental sit-ups to get into gear for the day.

I don’t obsess over the analytics, just keep an eye on referrals and search queries. At the end of the day how many happy customers you have is a better indicator. (45 and counting…)

Having an English/Japanese promo site means some interesting queries come in at times, like スケジュール管理をオンラインで for example. That puts as at no. 1 at Google, at least today anyway. Translated it means “manage (your) schedule online”

Right fish, wrong ocean

While Easy Eikaiwa is indeed an online schedule management tool, it’s aimed deliberately at language schools.

Still, it’s a nice feeling to be at no. 1. Expensive search engine optimisation and agressive viral marketing? Nah, just an honest site with a simple message. Staying focused on building the best app for a specific purpose is a better use of creative energies. To that end, it’s almost time for another coffee.
